Additionally, they faced the significant challenge of meeting a corporate objective to improve customer basket health by 2025.
The Solution: Driving Discovery through the Similarity Index
To help Woolworths nudge shopper behaviour and meet their health goals, Spoon Guru deployed its Smart Swaps API powered by a proprietary Similarity Index.
This technology uses enriched data and multi-criteria suggestions to identify relevant, healthier alternatives within the same product category and price range. By focusing on real-time, one-to-one swaps that respect price parity, the system ensures that healthier options are not only easily discoverable but also accessible and financially viable for the shopper.

The “Smart Swap” technology appears as a simple, helpful feature that meets shoppers exactly where they are. When a user looks at an item, the engine finds a “healthier” version in the same category and presents it as a “Healthier Choice” on the product page, making the better choice the easiest one to make.
